DONIS CASEY: Write Errant

One week from today, Wednesday, July 13, 7:00 pm, at Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ, is my official launch for The Old Buzzard Had It Coming. This has literally been years in coming, and now that time is so close, the reality of it all is beginning to set in, and I I find myself pondering the universal question : What am I going to wear?

My original plan for the event was to lose twenty pounds and get a face lift, but time grows short, so I’m settling for a new pair of fetching shoes. I looked for weeks for something delicious to go with my carefully considered outfit, and finally chose a pair of gold backless sandals with a 1 1/2″ heel. They look lovely as long as I remain still. I haven’t worn heels in so long that I tend to pitch forward when I try to walk with any speed. They make me taller than I’m used to, as well, and I find myself trying not to knock myself out when I pass under low objects. I really hope to appear charming and dignified at this event, so I’m going to have to be careful not to end up sprawled on the floor with my arms and legs all askew and one of my new sandals wedged up under a bookshelf.

I discovered that if I carefully lift and place each foot as I walk, I can perambulate slowly but gracefully around the room, looking rather langorous and somewhat mysterious, like an Egyptian ibis. As long as I don’t have to escape from predators or otherwise beat a hasty retreat, I’ll be fine.

So, my friends, I hope to see you all at Poisoned Pen Bookstore next Wednesday night, where I will be talking about my book, in the company of veteran author Rick Riordan, fellow debut author Milton T. Burton, and of course Barbara Peters, owner of the bookstore, Executive Editor for the press, and host for the evening’s event. The Old Buzzard is on the shelves now, available at bookstores and online venues like Amazon. But after the 13th, the book and I will have undergone our initiation. I will officially be a mystery novelist, and TOB will be launched. Ever upward.
