Here’s a piece of news : the 2007 edition of Novel and Short Story Writers’ Market has a feature on me in the “Emerging Voices” section. This annual directory for writers just came out this month, but I’ve known since last fall that there would be an article about me in this editon. Lauren Mosco, who wrote the feature, had contacted my publisher and asked him to suggest a likely debut author who might be amenable to an interview. Much to my eternal gratitude, he suggested me. She called me last November from New York, and we spoke on the phone for close to an hour about my book(s), my writing life, my publisher and editor, and how I came to be published. The resulting article is about 500 words long, with a nice big picture of the cover of The Old Buzzard Had It Coming and a smaller, though perfectly lovely and toothy picture of my own self. Next time you are in any bookstore, Dear Reader, pick up a copy of Novel and Short Story Writers Market (it’s green this year), turn to page 38 and share in my happiness.

On another happy note, fellow Poisoned Pen author Ann Parker sent me a copy of a nice review of Buzzard which came out in the August 2006 issue of Roundup Magazine, which is published by the Western Women Writers group. The review, parts of which I will post on the Buzzard review page, says:

“Occasionally a book comes along that is so unusual, so
unique, so downright warm and homey, that the reader falls in love with the characters, the setting, the plot, the language: in short, everything about the story is so likeable that the reader can’t stop turning the pages. The Old Buzzard Had It Coming is that kind of book … This is a delightful book whether you read it as a Western or as a mystery.”

How about that!

Ann Parker is the author of Iron Ties and Silver Lies, both set in Leadville, CO, at the end of the 19th Century, during the silver rush, and starring the fascinating Inez Stannert. I’ll post a link to her web site on my “Links” page.
